NoOptInfl

NoOptInfl: There is no distinct verbal paradigm to express the optative mood.

(1)lo-öašynburpogoďďa.
PCLwill_bePRS.3SGtomorrowgoodweather
’I wish the weather were good tomorrow!’ (L. P.)

(2)kytćököyl-ölebź-a-s.
PCLsomewherefarILLflyFUT3SG
’ (I want/insist that) he/she/it fly somewhere far away!’ (Ponomareva 2010: 6)

According to Bartens (2000: 219–223) optative mood can be expressed in one of two ways in Komi-Permyak: either with the particle med or the particle combined with a present or future inflected form of a finite verb. The very same construction encodes third person imperatives (2) in the language (Ponomareva 2010: 203–204), so the imperative and optative categories cannot be fully distinguished. Given this, we cannot speak of an independent optative paradigm in Komi-Permyak.
