AdjCopDep
AdjCopDep: Depending on certain grammatical circumstances, the copula does occur with adjectival predicates.
(1) | kaťa | vežöra. |
| Katya | clever |
| ’Katya is clever.’ (L. P.) |
(2) | nija | vežöra-öś. |
| they | clever‑PL |
| ’They are clever.’ (L. P.) |
(3) | lina | abu | dyš. |
| Lina | COP.NEG | lazy |
| ’Lina is not lazy.’ (L. P.) |
(4) | nija | abu-öś | dyš-öś. |
| they | COP.NEG‑PL | lazy‑PL |
| ’They are not lazy.’ (L. P.) |
(5) | me | völ-i | dyš. |
| I | COP‑PST.1SG | lazy |
| ’I was lazy.’ (L. P.) |
(6) | nija | lo-a-sö | gaža-öś. |
| they | COP‑FUT‑3PL | glad‑PL |
| ’They will be glad.’ (L. P.) |
In case of adjectival predication, Komi-Permyak uses the zero form of the copula in every person and number in affirmative present tense sentences in indicative mood (1)–(2). In grammatical environments different from this, e.g. in case of negation (3)–(4) or in non-present tenses (5)–(6) the copula is always present (cf. Bartens 2000: 265–267, Lobanova 2017).
