Pronominal possessors are always in genitive case in Komi-Permyak (1)–(2), with the possessed noun marked for person in the most typical case (1), but not obligatorily so (2) (cf. Ponomareva 2010: 56–61). In the absence of the possessor the possessed noun is always marked (1). When the possessive construction functions as the object in a sentence, the possessor is in ablative case, and the possessed noun appears in a special form with a suffix encoding both case and person information (3). The marking of possession does not seem to be contingent on the syntactic properties of the possessive construction, however, further research is needed to confirm this.
