(Komi-Permyak)

AdnDem=DeclPronDem

AdnDem=DeclPronDem: Adnominal and pronominal demonstratives have identical stems, but they differ in their inflection (for example, the existence or type of agreement).

(1)mikovraďejt-öetöpon-sö.
MikovlovePRS.3SGthis.ACCdogACC.3SG
’Mikov loves this dog.’ (L. P.)

(2)mebośt-isijazonka-liśroz-zez.

’I got roses from that boy.’ (L. P.)

(3)– ködazonka-liśbośt-i-nroz-zez?

– syliś.
that.ABL
’– Which boy did you get roses from? – From that.’ (L. P.)

In Komi-Permyak there are proximal demonstratives (eta ’this’, etna ’these’) and distal ones (sija ’that’, nija ’those’) (Batalova 2002: 86), the latter having the same form as third person singular and plural personal pronouns (cf. Ponomareva 2010). Demonstratives have a full case paradigm (Batalova 2002: 86), but in an adnominal position only grammatical cases show case concord (1), other cases do not (2). This contrasts with pronominal positions, where demonstratives inflect the same way as nouns (3) (L. P., Batalova 2002: 86).
