(Komi-Permyak)

DbleNeg / SmplNeg

DbleNeg: Negation is expressed through the use of both a negative pronoun and a negative predicate.

SmplNeg: Only affirmative predicates can be used with negative pronouns. Negation is therefore expressed only on the pronoun.

’I’m not going to school today.’ (L. P.)

(2)talunmeńekytćöogmun.

’I’m not going anywhere today.’ (L. P.)

(3)talunńekytćömun-ny.

’It’s not possible to go anywhere today.’ (L. P.)

In Komi-Permyak the negative predicate is used in sentences containing negative pronouns (2), double negation is therefore a common feature of the language (Lobanova 2017: 31). Negative pronouns can appear in the absence of a finite verbal predication as well (3), in which case the pronoun expresses negation alone (L. P.).
