In Meadow Mari, situational possibility is expressed through the use of verb constructions. It can be done in different ways depending on the situation or the intention of the speaker: i) a converb can combine with the verbs moštaš ‘have a learnt or inborn talent to do something’ (3) or kertaš ‘circumstances make it possible to do something’ (2) or ii) the infinitive can combine with the copula liješ ‘can’ (lit. ‘will be’) in case the possibility (or the lack of it) is the result of arrangements independent of the speaker (1) (Riese et al. 2022: 280–281).
