There is no agreement among the experts regarding the exact number of different nominal cases in Meadow Mari. Bereczki identifies 12 cases (cf. the table above) (Bereczki 1990), whereas Alhoniemi only 10 (Alhoniemi 1985), leaving ablative and approximative out of the list. Eeva Kangasmaa-Minn lists 8 cases, mentioning further 3 marginal case forms.
