In Meadow Mari attributive comparative constructions are formed with the help of the postposition deč following the standard, and the comparative form of the adjective, with the suffix -rak (2). The latter is optional: using deč alone also results in grammatical comparative constructions (1). There is no difference either in the meaning or the frequency of these two strategies (Riese et al. 2022: 101─102).
