(Meadow Mari)

ConcLin

ConcLin: The marking of case (and number) is exclusively concatenative, primarily with linear strategies.

(1)jal
’village’ (Bereczki 1990: 30)

(2)jal-la
villagePL
’villages’ (Bereczki 1990: 30)

(3)jal-la-ške
villagePLILL
’to the villages’ (Bereczki 1990: 30)

Meadow Mari uses suffixation for both case and number marking. Mari has only one declension where only words belonging to different stem types show minor alterations in their paradigms (cf. Bereczki 1990: 31).
