In meadow Mari, some adjectives have long and short forms contingent on whether they are used predicatively (2) or attributively (1). Adjectives can appear without a noun, in which case the long form is required (3), (4) (The short form for ‘green’ would be užar.) (Bereczki 1990: 44) However, the majority of adjectives only have one form (5)–(6).
