OthTthThth: Each ordinal is derived, through the same pattern, from the root of its corresponding cardinal numeral. This is also known as the “oneth, twoth, threeth” type.

In Meadow Mari, ordinal numerals are formed by adding the derivational suffixes -mše, -mšo (or, in the case of stems ending in -m, the suffixes -še, -šo) to the short form of the cardinal numerals. The ordinal for ‘fifth’ is formed by taking the variant of the root containing the consonant -z as the basis.
