Adpositions are always postpositions in Meadow Mari. Agreement with the case form of the complement or the lack of it is contingent both on the adposition and the complement. The pronominal complement of a postposition is usually in genitive case (1), (3), but not always (5). If the complement of the adposition is a noun or noun phrase, it typically appears in its base form (2), but there are adpositions that require an oblique case form on their complement (4).
