In present-day Udmurt both SOV and SVO can be considered neutral word orders (Asztalos et al. 2017, Asztalos 2018). The neutral position of manner adverbs is directly before the verb (cf. Vilkuna 1998: 204, Asztalos 2018: 113–117). The neutral orders therefore are object–manner adverb–verb (1), and manner adverb–verb–object (2).
