In Udmurt the nominal plural marker -(j)os can express associative plural meanings (2), (3) besides additive plurality (1). As an associative plural marker it is mostly attached to proper (2) and common nouns denoting human referents (3). The associated entities refer primarily to the family of the referent (Perevoshchikov et al. 1962: 76, Winkler 2001: 16), but depending on the context they can also be understood as referring to the friends/acquaintances of the focal referent, or even groups only temporarily associated with him/her.
