In Udmurt, certain postpositions can be marked for person when used as personal pronouns (1) but in the presence of an overt personal pronoun they usually lack person marking (2), unless the pronominal complement is focused (3). Other postpositions cannot be marked for person, in those cases the presence of the pronoun in the pronominal adpositional construction is not optional (4) (Kozmács 2002a: 36). Besides nominative case, the personal pronoun can appear in a dative or instrumental-comitative form with different postpositions. The presence of the personal pronoun is obligatory in these cases as well, with the postposition not showing person marking (5).
